Church End - Maxstoke - Coleshill Circuit

This walk from The Griffin Inn, Church Road, Shustoke, B46 2LB (Google Maps) on Sat 9 April was led by Evan Grant. 

 

The route is a circuit of just over 10 miles on footpaths and quiet roads heading first to Maxstoke, and then to Coleshill before skirting Shustoke on the way back to The Griffin at Church End.

 

The Griffin has a large car park; please park at the far end from the pub. We had an excellent lucnh there after our walk.

A Walk from Shustoke Reservoir led by Sharron Maguire

The walk will start from Shustoke Reservoir car park, B46-2BE, at 9.00am. and is about 9 miles in length, however there is a 4.5 mile version for anyone requiring a shorter distance.

From the car park the walk proceeds round the west and north sides of the reservoir to join with the Heart of England Way which is followed south to Dumble Wood. Anybody walking the shorter distance will leave the main walk here and head back in a north westerly direction to Shustoke via Hall Farm. The main walk continues to follow the Heart of England Way heading east and south east to High House Farm where it leaves the HoE way and proceeds south west to Broadmoor Wood. Here it turns north west and north back to Dumble Wood and thence back to Shustoke via Hall Farm.

Coleshill Circular walk through Maxstoke

Walk Description: the walk is approximately 8 miles and will take about 3 hours, the elevation is pretty constant and it is easy underfoot. There is free car parking in Church Hill car park (B46 3AD). The walk starts from the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul; starting with your back to the war memorial walk up the right side of the church to a gate, go through and turn half left along a tarmac path signed "Country Walk". Follow the path through a gate into a cemetery and immediately turn right. Follow the wall for some 20 yards then go through a kissing gate onto a track, turn left along the track for 50 yards and then turn right through a kissing gate. Go diagonally across the corner of a field to another kissing gate on the far side. Follow the path down the next field to a kissing gate in the bottom right hand corner, go through the gate and follow the enclosed footpath, crossing over the river Blythe and continuing to eventually join a gravel track.
