Walk from the Hatton Arms led by Angus Mills

Distance: around 10.5 miles starting at the Hatton Arms, Birmingham Road, Hatton, Warwickshire, CV35 7JJ.

From the pub we cross the Birmingham Road and head West (left) for a short distance before turning right and walking up the drive to Home Farm. We take a footpath on the right and circle around the farm buildings before turning right onto a track on the other side of the farm; we head away from the farm (right) and then turn right and continue straight to a minor road.

We turn left and walk up the road for a short distance to a junction where we turn right and continue for half a mile or so past some bungalows on the left towards Inchford Brook Farm; before reaching the farm we turn right down a bridleway passing through Bulloak Farm and continuing to the edge of a copse where another bridleway crosses our path. We turn left here passing through Goodrest Farm and up the farm drive to a road where we turn right and walk a short distance to a lay-by on our right. At the lay-by we leave the road (right) crossing a field of crops towards a wooded area. Upon entering the woods we turn left continue through the wood and emerge on the edge of Warwickshire golf course. We follow the path which skirts the edge of the golf course passing the County Police Headquarters on our left. We continue round the edge of the golf course and up a slope where we take a footpath on our left towards Leek Wooton; we continue straight ahead when we get to a path with high holly bushes. We arrive at the church and pass through the churchyard crossing a minor road and passing through four gates in quick succession before heading down a grassy slope on a diagonal to the left towards the entrance to the golf club where we pass through the car park towards some trees. The path winds through a trees to a tarmac road round the golf course.

We continue ahead round the edge of the golf course following the road and passing a field with horses and a house on our left; as we pass the house we leave the road and bear left on a diagonal away from the house passing through a metal gate on our left after which we turn right passing a trigpoint and continuing straight until we reach a collection of cottages which we pass and then take a gate on our right; the path continues ahead past a house with a 'statue' of a sheep in the garden arriving at another gate which we pass through. At this point it is easy to go wrong as there is a temptation to continue heading right. A large post marks a crossroads; it is at this point that we turn left crossing a couple of fields and heading towards a tarmac track; upon reaching the track we turn left and continue along the tarmac track for a mile or so, crossing the A46 before arriving at another road where we turn right. We walk a short distance along the footpath, crossing the road at a roundabout and continuing straight keeping the petrol station on our left. After a few hundred yards we reach a bridge over the canal where we leave the road and head right (West) along the canal towards Hatton Locks. The remainder of the walk is along the canal footpath - approximately 4 miles; the 'finish line' is in sight when we reach a stainless steel sculpture of a dragonfly in a pond on our right; the turning for the pub is a little further up the canal: a right turn up a hill to the pub car park where a well earned beer awaits us.
