Circular Walk from Meriden through Corley Moor and back via Eaves Green

Walk Description: the walk starts at the Queens Head public house car park in Meriden, CV7-7JP. The walk is approximately 8.5 miles and takes some 3.5 hours. From the front of the car park turn right along the road towards Meriden village for 200 yards to a gate in the hedge on the right, go through and proceed ahead across the field to a gate opposite. Turn right with the hedge on the right to the corner of the field and turn left with a hedge on your left, proceed ahead ta farm gate leading onto Fillongley Road. Cross the road and turn right for 1/4 mile, crossing the A45, to a gate in the hedge on the left, go through the gate and follow the path ahead to a gate leading into a wooded area. Bear left after the gate and go through the wood, as you come out of the wood through a gate go ahead along the edge of a cultivated field, through another gate and then across the middle of a another cultivated field which falls away to a farm track, aiming for a gap between trees.

 

Turn right along the farm track for 200 yards and where the track turns left, follow it round and proceed to Spring Pools. Here turn half-right and proceed across three cultivated fields to a track, turn right along the track which leads to a road going past Warren Farm and carry on to a T-junction. At the junction cross the road and go over a stile opposite and maintain direction across a field to the far right corner, cross a stile into the next field and proceed along the edge keeping the hedge on the left, at a junction of 4 footpaths cross the hedge and go ahead with a hedge on the right to a road.

 

Turn left along the road for a short distance and with Hayes Hall Farm on the left cross the road and go right into a field following Heart of England Way sign, turn right to the corner of the field and left round the corner making for the right of Birchley Hays Wood. Follow the southern edge of the wood, leaving the HoE Way on the way and changing to the Coventry Way, go over a stile and turn right following the path between the wood and a fence until the path leaves the edge. of the wood, follow the path through a fenced area to a track, turn left along the track past farm buildings on your left to a lane. Walk along the lane passing and old windmill converted into a modern looking house on the left to a T-junction with a road. Cross the road to a bridleway opposite, when the bridleway turns left keep ahead on a footpath heading towards the motorway. When you reach some houses turn right before the motorway and follow the track which leads to a road, Common Lane, turn left onto Common Lane and proceed for about 1/4 mile to where Church lane meets it from the left and Common Lane turns sharply to the right. Here, go straight ahead leaving the road over a stile into a horse meadow, go ahead across the meadow to a footbridge and stile opposite, cross the stile and follow the path to another stile in the corner of a field, turn right and follow the hedge on your left. At the end of the hedge turn right along a footpath for approx. 1/4 mile to a road, turn right onto the road and then keep left at a fork in the road, Shortly after the fork, turn left onto a footpath with a hedge on the right going towards Tidbury Castle Farm. At the farm, turn right and keeping hedges on your right follow the footpath to Watery Lane, here go straight ahead along Watery Lane with Elkin Wood on the left for some 250 yards.

 

At the end of the wood, turn right along a lane leading to Hollyberry Hall Farm, just in front of the gates to the farm drive there is a kissing gate on the left, go through the kissing gate and turn half right across the middle of the field until you reach a hedge, go to the right of the hedge and follow it downhill to Harvest Hill Lane. Cross the lane to a bridleway which you follow for over 1/2 mile, keeping to the right when a footpath joins from the left. When you reach a wood on the left keep your eyes peeled for a gate into the wood on your left signed Heart of England Way, go through the gate and follow the path through the woods (Meriden Shafts). When you exit the woods follow the path across pasture land, the path takes a gentle turn to the right and then heads for a road, turn right along the road into Eaves Green. At a fork in the road in the village keep left and follow the road under the A45, and keeping left at the next junction, back to the Queens Head.
