Walk Description: the walk starts from the carpark opposite to Berkswell reading room, CV7-7BB, and is approximately 7.5 miles long, easy going with no significant inclines. The walk follows the Heart of England Way to the Meridan Shafts. From the carpark, cross the Meriden Road and turn left away from the village centre and proceed for about 300 metres along the road and then go right up a track waymarked Heart of England Way. Cross a cattle grid and pass Blind Hall Farm on your left continuing uphill to another cattle grid, follow the track round to the right and continue to a stile. Over the stile turn half left and go diagonally across a cultivated field passing a copse on your left to another stile, follow the HoE waymark keeping the hedge on your left to another stile. Continue with the hedge on your left, crossing a stile and going through a hedge gap. When the hedge on your left ends, maintain direction to join a hedge on your right, following it to a stile/gate on to a road opposite a house called the Byre.
Cross the road and follow the drive towards the Byre, go through a gate and follow the fence on the right to a stile/gate, then go half left to the diagonally opposite corner. Follow a faint path 5 metres from the hedge on the right to reach a stile by a gate. Bear half left to another stile in the far hedge, then follow the hedge on the right to yet another stile. Bear right along the field's right-hand edge (with a huge farm off to the left) to reach a waymarker post. Here bear left across a cultivated field to reach a gate a gate onto a lane. Turn right along the lane and go past the church to the far end of the church yard, turn left through a gate to proceed through the church yard to reach a kissing gate and then follow the hedge on the right to another. Continue, with a fence on the right, when the fence turns sharp right maintain direction along an old iron fence with hawthorn trees. Go through two kissing gates within about 15 metres of each other to reach a main road. Cross the road and go down some steps into the car park of the Queen's Head Inn.
From the carpark follow the road around the left-hand bend in a northerly direction, keep to the road, taking a right fork at a junction, and continue under the A45 road to reach an angled T-junction. Bear right (signed Coventry 5.1/4) past a caravan site on the left, to a footpath on the left signed HoE Way, turn left along the path and follow it round a left-hand bend to a wood known as the Meridan Shafts. Follow the path through the woods to a gate exiting the woods onto a muddy track, turn right on this track to leave the HoE Way. Follow this enclosed track, at a junction of tracks take the right fork and continue to follow it to a road. At the road go straight ahead along a road crossing over the A45 to a T-junction with a the main road, cross the main road and turn left along the footpath.
Follow the road for about 1/4 mile into Millison's Wood, turn right along a path passing between houses to a gate leading into a field, maintain direction with the hedge on your right. Go through a stile/gate in the hedge and follow a path diagonally across a cultivated field to the opposite corner, here go through a gate, turn right and then immediately left and follow the path keeping a hedge on your left. Just before reaching a farmyard go half right to a gate leading to the farm, bear left across the farmyard then half right to go down a track leading to a road. Turn right along the road (Back lane) for about 1/4 mile then take a footpath on the left, follow the footpath keeping the hedge on your left to Hill House Farm, at the farm take the path on the left signed Coventry Way to a road (Broad Lane), turn right on Broad Lane then left onto Benton Green Lane. At a left-hand bend in Benton Green Lane, leave the lane to the right and join a footpath that is NOT the Coventry Way, this path goes diagonally across two fields to a farm track. Turn right and immediately left over a stile and follow a path diagonally across two fields to come out through a gate onto Broad Lane, turn left down Broad Lane into Berkswell passing The Bear Inn on your left. At the cross roads turn right back to the carpark opposite to the Reading Room.
